Made to live with

Designed to disappear into your home

Powerwall 3 is a sleek glass-fronted unit that looks at home on a garage wall, beside a patio or in a plant room, with the battery, solar inverter and controls built into a single unit.

  • One unit, not a stack of boxes. The solar inverter is built in, so there is no separate solar inverter to mount and wire.
  • Slim profile. Just 193 mm deep (1105 × 609 mm face), wall or floor mounted.
  • Quiet. Typically below 50 dB(A) at 1 m.
  • Always on. Stores your daytime solar and powers your home through the evening, the night and outages.

Features

Why Powerwall 3

Solar, storage and backup in one unit, built to Tesla’s specification and designed for the South African grid.

Integrated solar inverter

Three solar inputs accept up to 20 kW of panels directly, with no separate solar inverter needed.

Backup when the grid goes down

With Backup Gateway 2, your home switches to battery power automatically, so load-shedding goes unnoticed.

Control from the Tesla app

See solar production, battery charge, home usage and grid power in real time, from anywhere.

Grows with your needs

Install up to four Powerwall 3 units together for as much as 54 kWh of usable storage.

Indoors or outdoors

IP55 weather-rated for wall or floor mounting in a garage, plant room or outside, from −20 °C to 50 °C.

Built for South African grids

Tesla’s South African datasheet lists compliance with NRS 097-2-1 (Edition 3) for grid-connected systems.

The complete system

How Powerwall 3 fits into your home

Solar panels charge the battery by day. Powerwall 3 powers your home, and your electric vehicle if you have one, from your own energy.

  • Solar panelsGenerate power on your roof and feed Powerwall 3’s built-in solar inverter.
  • Powerwall 3Stores energy in a 13.5 kWh battery and supplies your home day and night.
  • Backup Gateway 2Detects an outage and isolates your home from the grid while the battery takes over.
  • Home and EVRun your household loads, and charge an electric vehicle with solar you have stored.

Installation

Built to sit indoors or out

Powerwall 3 is designed for real South African conditions, so it does not need a dedicated battery room.

  • Weather-rated. IP55 enclosure, with the battery and power electronics rated IP67.
  • Wide temperature range. Operates from −20 °C to 50 °C, including in direct sunlight. Output can reduce above 40 °C.
  • Flexible mounting. Fix it to a wall or stand it on the floor.
  • Built-in protection. Includes arc-fault detection, an isolation monitor, a DC isolator and a certified rapid-shutdown switch.

Configurations

Sized for your home

Start with one unit and add more as your needs grow, up to four Powerwall 3 units.

13.5 kWh

One Powerwall 3

Solar storage and backup for essential circuits in a typical family home.

27 kWh

Two Powerwall 3 units

More backup time and more evening energy for larger homes and higher usage.

54 kWh

Four Powerwall 3 units

The largest configuration, for big households, guest houses and small estates.

Usable energy is Tesla’s minimum guaranteed figure per unit at beginning of life. Your installer sizes the system to your usage, solar and backup needs.

FAQ

Powerwall 3 questions

Is Powerwall 3 available in South Africa?

Yes. Tesla publishes a South African datasheet for Powerwall 3, and in South Africa it is installed by Tesla Certified Installers. Request a quote and we will manage the process with you.

Does it work during load-shedding?

Yes. With Backup Gateway 2 installed, Powerwall 3 detects an outage, isolates your home from the grid and keeps your backed-up circuits running. Your installer designs which circuits are backed up and checks them against the unit’s output.

Can I add Powerwall 3 to my existing solar system?

Powerwall 3 has its own built-in solar inverter with three solar inputs (up to 20 kW), so it is usually installed as part of a new or upgraded solar system. Whether it suits your existing panels and inverter depends on your setup, so we assess it at the site visit.

How much storage can I have?

Each Powerwall 3 provides 13.5 kWh of usable energy, and up to four units can be installed together for 54 kWh.

Can it be installed outside?

Yes. Powerwall 3 is rated for indoor and outdoor use (IP55 enclosure) and can be wall or floor mounted. It operates from −20 °C to 50 °C, and output can reduce above 40 °C.

What warranty does it come with?

Powerwall 3 has a 10-year warranty from Tesla. Tesla states that the unit must be reliably connected to the internet to secure the full warranty, and cellular should not be the primary connection.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the number of units, your solar system and the installation. Request a quote and we will put together a clear proposal for your home.
